My Top Listens of 2019

Spotify lists your top listens for the year and not sure if I agree but for certain some of my favorites are definitely in the list. A few links in this post,  I hope you like them.

By the way, this post was inspired by a blogger in NYC who writes under LA, check her out here. She would love it if you say “Hi!”

This is the order that Spotify came up with, so I’ll go with it.

Peaceful Easy Feeling – Eagles

As you can imagine, this song sounds easygoing.  The steel guitar has you tap toeing within a minute. Click here

‘Cause I got a peaceful easy feelin’
And I know you won’t let me down
‘Cause I’m already standin’
On the ground

Always On My Mind – Willie Nelson

I first heard Elvis sing this song and liked it, but even better is Willie’s version, but that shouldn’t be surprising as he wrote it.

It’s kind of a sad song, but sweet.  Definitely country,  and not positive but I think Hopalong Cassidy sang it to his horse. Buttercup was always on his mind I guess.

And maybe I didn’t hold you
All those lonely, lonely times
I guess I never told you
I am so happy that you’re mine
Little things I should have said and done
I just never took the time
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

Sultans of Swing – Dire Straits

I think this song came out around 1979, loved it right away.

Check out the guitar twang here.

You check out guitar George, he knows-all the chords
Mind, it’s strictly rhythm he doesn’t want to make it cry or sing
They said an old guitar is all, he can afford
When he gets up under the lights to play his thing
And Harry doesn’t mind, if he doesn’t, make the scene
He’s got a daytime job, he’s doing alright

Hooked On A Feeling – Blue Swede

This is an old song, and I think I heard it back in 1974 !

It’s fun to sing along with, and sometime I would love to do this song in karaoke with a group!  Ooga chaka Ooga chaka

I can’t stop this feeling
Deep inside of me
Girl, you just don’t realize
What you do to me
When you hold me
In your arms so tight
You let me know
Everything’s all right
pals

Band On The Run – Paul McCartney, Wings

Not too many albums are fantastic, good from beginning to end, but when this one came out in 1974 it was absolutely amazing. Remember Jet and Bluebird?

I loved it and another song I would sneak in by PC from another album would be Silly Love Songs.

You know what they say ……

Some people want to fill the world with silly love songs
And what’s wrong with that
I’d like to know

Fly Me To The Moon – Frank Sinatra (or Diana Krall)

When it’s a classic, you don’t have to say hardly anything, it’s a classic !   So many songs from Diana Krall that I could add.

Fly me to the moon
Let me play among the stars
Let me see what spring is like,
On Jupiter and Mars
In other words, hold my hand
In other words, darling, kiss me

In other words,Hold my hand

Boston City Flow

I’m In A Hurry (And Don’t Know Why) –  Alabama

Country covers such a broad spectrum of sounds, and some of it I really enjoy like this song, and I could easily add some other country songs like Neon Moon (Brooks & Dunn)  or My Maria (Brooks & Dunn)

Oh I’m in a hurry to get things done
Oh I rush and rush until life’s no fun
All I really gotta do is live and die
But I’m in a hurry and don’t know why
Can’t be late
I leave plenty of time
Shaking hands with the clock
I can’t stop
I’m on a roll and I’m ready to rock

Breezin – George Benson

An instrumental song, this song was responsible for me buying a new stereo when I moved out on my own, before I bought a bed.   If you can’t remember  how it  sounds, click here

linden garden tulipsKodachrome – Paul Simon

Another song that brings back memories. I used to walk to school with Blaine, an amazing friend in high school.  I remember Blaine and I one sunny morning in East Vancouver singing this song on the morning walk.  For a happy sound from the 1970’s try here.

When I think back
On all the crap I learned in high school
It’s a wonder
I can think at all
And though my lack of education
Hasn’t hurt me none
I can read the writing on the wall
Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world’s a sunny day, oh yeah

I know everyone likes their own music, but I thought this would be fun as a post.
I hope you enjoyed, and maybe remember these songs.
I had fun finding those links and listening.
Have a wonderful topnotch day. – Dave

Wings was Paul’s band in the 70’s. Songs like Jet, Maununia, Band on the Run which was also the album name. Thank you Joni, I don’t know if you listened via the links to the songs but great to hear you liked a few of the songs

What a fun exercise! Love seeing George Benson on there, haven’t listened to him in a very long time. Pretty sure Super Trooper by ABBA would show up on mine as my granddaughter requests it every time she is here for a dance party tune!💕

It was fun Lynn, and I know I am behind the times in music but that’s me (shrug). George Benson has a few songs I really like – I bet you like Masquerade. I am glad you liked some of the list and commented. Have a TERRIFIC day.
